Navigating this “New Normal”

Categories: News,Stories

Today is May 19, 2020.  I am still working from home and can only see the sun through a somewhat dusty window.  I have watched the news every day, TV commentators expressing words like pandemic, new normal, coronavirus, etc.

This past Sunday my daughter was walking outside covered with our masks and gloves maintaining social distance and while we were leisurely having a conversation, I noticed others around me.  I found myself acknowledge other mask wearers with a shake of my head like we were a part of a club.  I wondered; how will I navigate through this “New Normal”?  What will Sunday service become?

Church interaction will now change.  Will I have to worship in a mask?  When we must greet each other in love will we give air hugs and kisses?  As an Elder in the Lord’s church laying hands on the sick is important.  The scripture says in Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV) … they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

In just three short months we have gone from normal to new normal, from socializng to social distancing.  Many have suffered losses of love ones, jobs and income.

Navigating through this “New Normal” will take patience and faith.  This is a time of introspection in the time of isolation.  God has plan for all of us during this time.  Yes, it is a time of testing of our faith and we will get through it.
